Could a web application … (II)

Could a web application … (II)

They say that curiosity killed the cat, but we are by nature restless and do not stop to ask questions about many things. For example, the increasingly known Web applications , which seems to have come to stay and even take the place of some traditional desktop programs.

In our second round of questions we have noticed a growing concern for issues something … peculiar. But do not worry, whatever your need, sure there’s a Web application that covers it. Let’s check:

Out of my head the song from that ad so heavy?

pegadizoAnswer: YES . And what better way than with that saying so successful that says "a patch of blackberry with another is removed." Under this premise appears a web application called Unhearit .

What makes Unhearit is to provide a catchy song each time you reload the page. These songs are chosen and shared by users, so if you want you can contact the creators and send your suggestions to grow the catalog. By the way, the player is chosen to reproduce SoundCloud, discussed below .

Make my purchase?

clip_image001Answer: NO , but, leaving aside your desire to move questionable, it can help you make the shopping list. For example, ZipList is a list of specific tasks that ranks supermarkets by categories so that items do not have to return several times to the same sections of the establishment. They also serve other more general managers like Remember The Milk , Toodledo or Ta-Da Lists .

And how to know what to buy if not organizing your meals a week? In that case, we recommend Food on the Table , a website to launch weekly diet plans according to your financial needs or health.

Help my career?

clip_image002Answer: Yes , at least help, of course. And that talent long ago, but the coup de grace is given by the appropriate management of good tools. In this case there are two paragraphs in which web apps can help.

One is in production itself. Do not have musicians? With OHM Studio you can find anywhere in the world, and UJam not even need to be human. Do not have a mixer? Soundation and Aviary Roc supply the most traditional without installing anything. You do not even have paper? With VexFlow or Noteflight can compose songs directly on the staff.

The other section is the promotion. If you want your music reach the ears of others, the first thing to do is share with players like SoundCloud . If you also seek the opinion of other artists, may be helpful as a specialized social networks Playeek .

Find the 20 euros I lost the other day?

Answer: Unlikely . It appears that you begin to ask questions somewhat compromised, but not give your friend and rough blue paper yet lost. Even impossible missions like this, there are utilities that can help.

EuroBillTracker curious is the work of foreign exchange traffic have devised a system whereby you can register the serial number of your tickets. Thus, the web application you will be reporting on the places that has been dropped "your ex-money" as long as the winners entering the same page the same serial number.

Must have been a failure but be warned that it was not easy

Me time travel?

Answer: Yes , in a metaphorical sense of the term. If you are looking to travel physically through time, web applications are not required to do so. What are you doing right now at normal speed ahead.

And how could you do it, because, figuratively? You have three ways: by video nostalgia of another time, thanks to Youtube Time Machine and content selector years, through emails to your ‘I’ of the future, thanks to various pages that we recommend in this article , and finally , taking a look at your aged appearance with Face Of The Future .

Create your personal calendars with Google Calendar

Create your personal calendars with Google Calendar

Would you like to have a calendar with the holidays in your country? Or better one with the matches of your favorite team? Just want to have saved the birthdays of your friends? Why not have all the calendars in one place? With Google Calendar you can have as many calendars as you like and all organized.

Maybe you have not stopped to look at what lies beyond your Gmail messages. If so, with a click will open a new range of possibilities is presented Calendar.Un Google Calendar or more.

Google Calendar gives you the option to record all your appointments or events you want to remember in the same calendar. However, it is convenient to have several different calendars to not miss from birthdays, holidays or saints of the year.

How do I create a calendar?

You have three options: create your calendar, or access to which is included in the same Google Calendar. This second option is most comfortable but, unfortunately, there are not many available. Another option is to import calendars shared by other people, but that subject we’ll leave for another occasion.

A calendar from scratch

The easiest way is to use the default calendar that appears in Google Calendar. The list appears with your name and, if not want to get complicated, that’s enough to use as a calendar.

The second option, much more clean and orderly, is to add calendar events by type . An example: I create a calendar just to have my friends’ birthdays. Since I have so many friends I do not want to mix with my regular schedule or calendar of matches of my team. The solution? Create separate calendars .

Other calendars

Google Calendar calendars divide between "My Calendars" and "Other Calendars." These enigmatic "other" are nothing more than calendars and created by friends of yours, other people in general or which Google calls "calendars interesting."

The latter idea is that you can quickly import calendar already filled to see, for example, holidays, sporting events or times of sunrise and sunset.

Each calendar, a flush

Once you create multiple calendars, not to confuse the system is as simple as colors. And is that each schedule and tickets come displayed in a different color . For example, my personal appointments will be in green, matches my team in blue and birthdays of my friends in red.

Events

A calendar is only useful if it is filled. With Google Calendar could not be easier: Click on the specific day and opens a small window to include the information.

Once you create the event you can add guests, a brief description, location thereof, etc.

Notices

Among the details that can add events, reminders are one of the most useful. It is nice to have a full calendar of appointments, but, if you look, is more than possible that you may overlook some. The ads, whether by e-mail or pop-ups come to be a kind of guarantee.

Time share

You have your calendar. Surely some friend will be more than happy to take advantage of your work. If you are generous, sharing is the touch of a button . Go to settings and select the option to share: right there you can decide if you want others to be or not to edit the information.

Do you use Google Calendar? What do you like this service?

Comparison: Free Antivirus (2009)

Comparison: Free Antivirus (2009)

Free Antivirus is a consolidated phenomenon. Those who were once primitive and craft programs have become, over the years, on robust tools capable of competing with the most complete antivirus payment. But what is the best free antivirus of 2009 ? The answer is not simple.

In this comparison the three major face-AVG, AntiVir and avast! – Two newcomers and Panda Security Essentials Microsoft Cloud. It was not easy to find a winner, because the quality of each of these products is remarkable. However, looking through a magnifying glass, we believe that differentiating between each of them is not only feasible but also useful.

Opponents

They are the best of the best in terms of free antivirus. Hundreds of millions of users rely on them to keep their computers safe against the overwhelming variety of malware that swarms over the Internet. Let me present:

AVG Anti-Virus Free 9, beautiful but slow

AVGAVG was one of the first Free antivirus gain popularity. Product of the Czech house Grisoft (now AVG Technologies), began in 1998. Now, its 80 million users guarantee the strength and quality of a known virus has renewed every year. The version analyzed is AVG Free 9.0 , the free, equipped with antivirus, antispyware, scan blogs and e-mail scanner.

Traditionally, complaints to the virus have had to do with speed, AVG problem which has sought to solve through analysis optimizer that runs after installing the antivirus. Version 8.x was embroiled in controversy earlier this year, when he spotted the user32.dll file system as harmful.

Avira AntiVir 9, antivirus kart

AviraThe German AntiVir, with over twenty years of history and a hundred million users, is another king of the free antivirus. Has a reputation for fast and light, but also dull. It is the only one of the comparison that has not been translated into Spanish in its free version. In addition, no analysis of email and web shield.

For a long time, AntiVir was known for annoying ads showing in updating the database of signatures, which version 9 has not remedied. The feeling you have when you run it is to be driving a powerful antivirus engine with little bodywork, so few that are options.

avast! Home 4.8, complete protection

AvastA native of the Czech Republic (like AVG), the famous avast! was born in 1988. They use more than 100 million people worldwide, and its engine has been used in other products such as G-DATA, which combines together the BitDefender. A lack of version 5.0 , which promises a new user interface and more sophisticated protection, we analyzed the 4.8, last representative of a very strong arm.

Avast! impacts us your dashboard, similar to an audio player, perhaps one of the least usable of the comparison. Moving beyond appearances, however, a number of modules we find hard to beat. Six shields protect all possible paths virus from IM and P2P programs to the local network and Outlook mail.

Microsoft Security Essentials, surprise

MSEAfter repeated failures , the latest being OneCare, Microsoft never expected to try again. But it has been: Microsoft Security Essentials is the latest venture of the Redmond giant in the field of computer security.

Those who thought meeting a mediocre product had to backpedal, it transpires MSE quality from every pore . Integration with Windows is perfect, and antivirus protection is complemented by the anti-spyware already present in the unknown appreciated and Defender, which fully replaces MSE. The reaction of the great houses, such as Symantec, has been very virulent, and no wonder: MSE users are growing every day.

Panda Cloud, the collective intelligence

CloudInstead of updating as any other antivirus, Panda Cloud samples analyzed through a collective network of information: a virus in the cloud . To be effective, Panda Cloud requires a permanent Internet connection, a dependency that is its Achilles heel.

The ease of use is paramount Cloud Panda and response times to new threats. On the other side of the equation are the lack of options and the little information that gives the user, but that does not seem to be a serious problem for most users. Furthermore, its intuitive interface is liked by many.

And the winner is … avast!

For the breadth of protection, speed and low false positive rate, avast! stands as the winner of this comparison. avast! stands out above all by the amount of available modules. And how important is the standard detection and control of alternative pathways, such as chat or web mail.

Closely followed by Microsoft Security Essentials, which offers the best user interface and the most effective malware removal and debris. No wonder that Symantec has hit hard MSE: the quality is enough to worry the home production of commercial antivirus. His point less favorable is the lack of options when handling infected files.

Rate of false positives / false alarms Tasas de falsos positivos The false positive rates of Avira and avast! are lowest (see AV-Comparatives)

In third place is Avira, a racing car racing without a body. Its engine is very fast, light and very effective, but poor control, the false positive rate, quite high, is attached to the cut function of the free version and the lack of translation in Spanish.

Fourth and fifth are for AVG and Panda Cloud respectively. AVG, despite its attractive appearance, is still a dinosaur in terms of speed of scanning. Panda Cloud, on the other hand, has severe limitations: its speed and detection capacity are high, but the memory consumption is also very high during the analysis. The need for a permanent connection is another notable limitation.
