The most anticipated: supergadgets December 2011

Just finished 2011, we still remember that year pending products that have deserved to be Supergadgets the month of December 2011. That distinction falls on them for being the most important products presented or offered for sale in our country. Our last Supergadgets of 2011 has as its protagonists two of the most unwanted and graphic opens an entire industry of products that are to come.

Kindle, the king is coming for her throne.

The king of the electronic book readers in Spain landed his legend with the clear aim of confirming what we already knew: that rules the world of e-readers with a firm hand. The entire range has been the Kindle from Amazon seller in its history, and that’s saying a lot. Nothing is coincidence. And the basic Kindle is ahead. The new Kindle is already in Spain and wishes him a healthy future that will hopefully be with a better performance of the electronic book in our country.

AMD 7970, opening a cycle

The AMD 7970 mid-December opening a new cycle in the section on graphics cards with its new Core architecture Next Graphics and use of 28 nm. GPU will follow many other similar, but the road was already open for her. PCI Express 3.0, lower consumption and higher performance are included in your letter. Now we just need to use all its advantages.

Nexus Galaxy comes the prodigal son

Have been offered for sale in Spain in December, show off the phone screen and be more “expected” of 2011 could not leave outside our Galaxy Nexus supergadgets December 2011. If we add that this phone has Android 4.0 on the perfect body that looked so good in our video analysis, what more can we ask?

CES 2012, what can we expect

After acclimatization to the new year, lovers and fans of gadgets and get to know who plays the largest technology trade fair in the world, the CES in Las Vegas. And as every year, we anticipate a few days to its conclusion, and the time it takes to get our plane to Nevada, we have compiled that we hope are the four cardinal points of the CES 2012.

1. Televisions We will see betting brands like Sony, Panasonic, Philips, Toshiba, LG and Samsung for this 2012. More 3D, with a detour to passive technologies, and above all, much Smart TV, with applications such as guest stars. It also expects a lot of agreements with brands such as Samsung Google to revive its GoogleTV.

New display technologies already have the advance of – spectacular – LG OLED TV but will not be far from alone, for either business models or prototypes simple, organic technology faces an exciting 2012. And as a trend of 2012 will not miss the entrance to the superresolution, a bet of companies that we fear to suffer the same effect as 3D a lot of equipment but no content. And in the field of the future, expect more functional prototypes of flexible displays or yes.

2. Future Consoles With your other important fair in the summer, the world of video games tiptoes through Las Vegas. However, this year the big three have things to say. Microsoft deemed the consolidation of its Xbox 360 in the content section, while the upcoming Sony PS Vita show for the American and European markets. Meanwhile, Nintendo will not lose the opportunity to take to the halls of CES 2012 U a few Nintendo Wii, but we fear that it will be very limited and we can get clear.

3. Tablets, ultrabooks and Windows 8 With newly launched Tegra 3, the ESC 2012 would be the ideal time to introduce new models of tablets. But with the MWC so close we fear they will not be all that we hope to present the developments in this field. That world was moved last year, like all mobile phones, to Barcelona. Yes we will have a strong presence of ultrabooks, both models ready to be marketed as a prototype in which the line between tablet and laptop definitely could dilute.

And the hub linking all these teams will not be other than Windows 8. Microsoft is expected to be fired in a big way at CES, but we fear that it will not because they have already warned that it will be more of a tour passing through Las Vegas more than a final fireworks party. Yes it is expected that many large manufacturers teach us what we offer in the range of laptops under the auspices of ARM architecture.

4. The connected car After a few years when cars took up more and more space at CES, the 2012 will be the explosion of the connected car. Many brands, including Ford, will surely much to tell about the electric car, connectivity on board, driving technological aids and gadgets that already flood the car near future. We end this so we can expect from CES 2012 reminding that another year will be at Engadget Las Vegas this time with two editors to know more, contact product or making it interesting not Engadget cover passes.

Plantronics Savi W740: The right headset for telephone professionals

Plantronics Savi W740 is an advanced wireless headset for those who are working intensively on the phone all day. It is the first approved to TCO’s new criteria, which should mean good ergonomics and even minimal environmental impact.

Ergonomics, we can attest. Earphone mounted in an ear loop or a headphone, and both are very comfortable. The earpiece is lightweight and sits nicely on your head as long as you do not have too wide between the ears. Anyone who has a little larger head may have problems with the strap too tight a little hard, and if so, is the earpiece better. You get a whole package of different plastic rings that you can hang it on your ear with, with different rubber Plupp for best fit.

Better than most phones The sound quality of the handset is excellent, with exceptionally strong bass to be a telephone receiver. This makes the feeling of presence is very good when you’re talking to someone over a good connection, for example via IP telephony.

Cochlea talk wirelessly with a base station that can be connected to the computer, phone line and even your smartphone. Then it is easy to switch between them with buttons on the device. Are you running Microsoft Lync at work, it is especially easy to get started.

Most of the pros For other systems, it is tricky and may require a lot of computer experience, and to interconnect with its smartphone may require some technology skills. But, you know what you’re doing should have no trouble connecting Savi W740 for example Skype. Savi W740 cost a lot, so it is not something you get home just for fun. For those of you who work all day with a phone in your ear, it may however be a very welcome tool.

Senseg reveals a touch screen “texture”

Touch screens are now so advanced that they are able to recognize even up to 50 contact points, and are extremely accurate both in its resistive and capacitive models. What remains to advance this field? Well according Senseg, the next step is textured screens that let us interact well with what we see to touch, allow us to feel with our fingers what material we’re playing. This is the prototype concept “Feel Screen”, the signing of Finnish origin has been proposed, which is specifically designed to add a sense of touch to touch screens.

Senseg The product is able to create different sensations to touch, and to apply different textures to the surface of the screen. The technology uses electrostatic fields that create the illusion of touching our skin texture concrete. This is achieved by creating a small force of attraction between the surface of the screen and the tips of our fingers with electrostatic energy, producing a series of effects depending on the strength of that attraction, adding some resistance when you slide your fingers across the screen and creating a problem, resulting in a sensation of roughness, or run your hand along the edge of an object, or touching a surface with bumps, feeling that is accentuated by the image we see on the screen, which suggestion the mind to associate what they feel our fingers with what we perceive through sight. According to the company, this kind of technology will be applicable to different types of devices of various sizes to be a scalable system.

The possibilities are endless textured these screens, and could naturally improve user interfaces, creating different types of feelings we experience as the stage, like typing on a keyboard on-screen, where we could feel each individual key , gaining speed and accuracy at the time of writing, or even helping the visually impaired through touch for better control of an electronic device.

Ensures Senseg Feel Screen technology is ready for mass production next year, though possibly not start seeing any touch device “textured” until much later, once it has proven reliability and real applications of the touch screen with texture. It is certainly a major advance in order to improve even more experience with touchscreens. What remains in doubt is whether the current software may be adapted to support an interaction so different.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 11.6 “on the road with a 2 GHz processor

Apparently Samsung wants to step on the field of netbooks and now the new Ultrabooks with a larger tablet to the current standard. It is said that the elder brother of the Galaxy range Tab would be ready to be launched with a 11.6-inch screen and high resolution with dual-core processor as well.

This is obviously a rumor, but it takes strength when the specifications which would have shown that they are not far from reality. Samsung launches would be absurd if just a bigger team with the same performance and for that reason it would be accompanied by a resolution Retina-style display with 2048 x 1536 pixels. Coupled with the high resolution screen also integrate a dual-core processor, specifically a 5250 Exynos 2GHz Cortex architecture based on A15.

The technical specifications of the rumors point to a supposed iPad 3 A6 processor, but nothing can be confirmed of course. The interesting thing about this rumor would not surprise me coming from Samsung as they have been given the task of launching products that span sizes in inches from 4 to 10, is that they are treading so far do not correspond to the tablets, but which can be an interesting novelty if not seen as a tablet itself, but a screen with features focused on the segment of the TV.

Another interesting point is that would be the first in her family to come with Android Ice Cream Sandwich 4.x, which makes us wonder if this version of the system is ready for that resolution. Also have the latest version of Android, it seems to integrate a wireless control mode for HDTV sincornizacion.

This type of rumor never stop missing when such important exhibitions such as CES or MWC are so close, however, we are always vigilant because companies are being too predictable lately with the products to be launched.

Intel and Micron unveil the first 128Gb NAND chip

And suddenly the base capacity on mobile devices miraculously multiplied. Micron and Intel have announced something we have been working together for a long period, the first 128Gb NAND chip, which will lead to consumer devices such as tablets, smartphones and SSDs to higher levels of storage in the coming years. The new NAND flash memory of the two companies is the first of its kind to be manufactured with 20nm technology and achieve similar storage density, MLC format which should make it relatively affordable. In the same press release, both companies have also announced a more humble chip of 20nm 64Gb also manufactured with the particularity of being produced in SLC format, so it would be generally more reliable and have better performance than the encapsulated of 128Gb.

The new blade has the potential to allow up to 1 Terabit – 128 Gigabytes – distributed in 8 chips packaged in a device the size of a fingertip, with up to twice the performance of current solutions 64GB. The 20nm technology used to produce these reports jointly developed by the collaboration between Intel and Micron called IM Flash Technologies, uses a new cell structure – planar cell – which allows more aggressive scaling than other architectures. The chip of 128Gb falls within ONFI 3.0 specification, which means it is able to deliver exceptional performance (up to 400MB / s according to the specification descrpición) and is ready for next generation devices.

64Gb SLC versions are already in mass production, and soon so will the higher capacity models, samples of which will start being sent to the leading manufacturers and assemblers in January. With this, IMFT expected rapid transition to these memoirs next year, with the first devices emerging in the second half of 2012. The advantages of this new chip, capable of reaching 333 MT / s are evident, as it offers greater storage density in an extremely small area, making it perfect for all kinds of products for the mobile market, from tablets to smartphones, which would increased capacity and performance-based storage without a format change to accommodate the chip. This is also a key to the future of SSDs, which would benefit from lower cost of production of 20nm technology.

This is certainly something very beneficial, even in the short term, to all consumers, we can enjoy a greater amount of storage and higher transfer speeds, while we’ll see how this progressively lower price.

ASUS prepares convertible Ultrabook Windosw 8

Upon seeing this news and comment internally, we came across a dilemma about what might happen if manufacturers start to repeat the mistakes of the past still have incredible new software tools as a standard and a slim, lightweight laptops. The combination, though it seems interesting, warns us that in the past but did not work with the new Windows 8 interface for touch screens could get a second chance.

This was not 2011 the best year of Ultrabooks and apparently, as we said Axel, the new offer would be marketed with touch screens. We do not know if it’s a good idea, but apparently ASUS was the first to buy the idea and since he would be preparing a convertible notebook with Windows 8 and touch screen, a rotating Zenbook Asus.

The dilemma with which we found was that, it seems that the manufacturers did not learn of the failure with the Tablet PC, those convertible notebooks with touchscreens that only served to recognize the stylus. Something really tedious. However, with the arrival of Windows 8, which still have the idea that the Tablet PC can find a niche in the market, they saw a glimmer of hope.

As Manu told us when he had in his hand a tablet with Windows 8, the interface Metro is more interesting in a touch device, although at that time was in a trial stage, the result was great and enough decent enough to believe that Microsoft learned from the many reviews and Windows 8 will have the capacity and offer a true tactile experience.

Now the point here is that you want to create a Ultrabook (only 13 inches thick) with touch screen that also could change their appearance and may become a tablet. If we imagine it seems incredible, right? the combination of a product that can also be thin tablet and not seem like a double sandwich to change of position is an excellent idea. However, making a Ultrabook with a swivel screen would need a different hinge which could be implemented in the current ultrabook, which will completely remove the image of an ultra-thin.

The need to innovate is to launch products in each company, we have that clear, but is it necessary to occupy all sectors even when they have failed in the past?

Samsung Galaxy Note: Giant Phone with pen

Samsung Galaxy Note looks like a parody of a smart phone, which you hold to your ear and pretend it’s a phone, just to point out how bizarre it is great. But it is really a phone. With a screen of 5.3 inches is the insanely high compared to all other phones on the market. Samsung’ve recently released both surf boards such as telephones in every possible screen sizes, and with Galaxy Note they try to create some sort of cross between a surf pad and a phone, which has its problems and its advantages.

The most distinctive feature is of course the screen. A 5.3 inch screen stands out and makes automatic phone a little difficult to meet in a relaxed way. But as we often complain about the smaller phones with small screens and keyboards, we must still say that it has its advantage, even if the Note is best suited for those with large hands.

Large Plant. With 5.3 inch and 720p resolution, it is the first and largest display of smart phones with these specifications. Remember that it is very much before you buy it. Try to keep in the first.

Bright and clear

The screen is super AMOLED type that is excellent in terms of brightness, crispness and viewing angle. Color reproduction is also excellent, although it is not the best we’ve seen. The resolution is 1280 x 800 bildpuinkter – that is, 720p HD. This gives a pixel density of 285 dots per inch, which is less than an iPhone 4S, but better than most phones you can buy at the moment. The details are clear and the text easier to read. It makes Galaxy Note to a clearly interesting phone if you want it to act like media player too.

The processor is Samsung’s own, and run the dual core in the 1.4 gigahertz. It uses Exynos chipset that we saw among other things, the Samsung Galaxy S2. That means it can handle everything in the Media Path. We charge the high definition mkv files as well as low-resolution xvid and divx movies and it just chugs on.

No playback problems at all, and run a 720p movie, you get a really good movie experience because the screen using the entire resolution. The only thing that bothers us with Note that media player is that it is no small place that can allow it to stand up on a table. You must always keep in it.

Stylus pen with pressure sensitivity

There is a pen to write on the screen. It is of course possible to use your fingers and tap, but the pen adds a new dimension. It replaces not only your fingers to enter information, but have 128 different pressure levels so you can use the Note to paint with. Sure, it’s not as optimal as paper and pencil, but the unit can play a role if you need to write much.

Both the pen and apps to use it feels better than, say, HTC Flyer. You can also enter text using the stylus just like on an old Palm, but it does not work as good as we wanted. It is often wrong and it is generally slower than using a sensible keyboards. The size of the screen also makes the traditional text input with fingers is more accurate and faster.

The pen sits on the lower short side of the phone and also has a button on it. Do you start screen and press the button, and then double-click, you will automatically enter the S Memo Lite is an app for taking quick notes. Press not on the pen button works to navigate as usual. Here we think that it is an advantage of our northern latitudes, in that you can easily use the pen, even with gloves, and it’s pretty easy to pull out the pen, even with gloves on.

Split product

The size will not only benefit. Of course it is harder to bring down the Note in a pocket than a phone with a 4-inch screen. A large pocket or a jacket can accommodate it, but not comfortably.

Another interesting aspect is that it is identified as Tablet on the Market. Our favorite keyboard Swiftkey appeared in both Tablet and phone version, and when we wanted to install the phone version Swiftkey complained to me that version was not optimized for tablets. It went to install, but when we check the Android Market site would not let us install the telephone version of the Note, but the surf flat version is fine. From Market on the phone was, however, both good to install. Also does not show specific surfplatteappar as Google Body up in the Market. It feels just a little ambivalent about his own size.

Expensive but affordable for some

Note Galaxy is expensive as hell. It is around 6500 SEK at säljstart and is available for around 6000 today. This means that the ports among the most expensive phones on the market. But is it worth it? Yes, partly because there is no similar phone in the same screen size, partly because it fulfills a function for those who really need a large screen. Performance and build quality is top and the screen as well. You really need to make sure that you need a large screen for like Galaxy Note, but do you do that you’ll love it.

Intel Shark Bay – the new processor family in 2012 and 2013

In the leaked presentations, Intel has been making bold claims regarding a reduction in power consumption (20 fold reductions by 2013) for over ten days of connected standby performance on a notebook. We receive a little insight as to how it plans to accomplish this, not so much through a revolutionary CPU redesign but through a new power-managed platform.

From Intel, we have a momentum of new information on the upcoming Intel “Shark Bay” available platform, which will probably appear next year. This includes the new 22nm processors in Haswell construction, which will be released as early as 2013 in the trade and bring even more power with less power consumption with it.

The new platform moves here at Shark Bay, with two new sockets for processors, once the G3 (947-pin) for mobile terminals and the new H3-socket (LGA1150) for desktop PCs. Both new processors support Hyper-Threading already known and Turbo Boost technology and include a dual-channel DDR3-1600MHz RAM-equipped controller, and PCI-Express 3.0. In addition, also follows a graphics chipset can output DirectX 11 content, and it supports up to three monitors. Other new features include the Intel AVX 2.0 Set of commands, new options for overclocking and last level cache.

Haswell itself is a new architecture, but appears to remain quad-core with a similar TDP to current Intel offerings, whilst scaling down to 15W for netbook devices. This may seem insignificant, however 15W allows Intel to look to push its Atom technology towards lower power-consumption and focus in a more specific market. Intel has already announced its intentions to work with Google to optimise Android for the Atom and x86 modifications to the Android source have been spotted very recently.

The new Haswell processors will appear with two and four cores, and have a power consumption between 35 to 95 watts. The mobile processors will be equipped similarly, but have a power of 37, 47 and 57 watts. In addition, a system-on-chip solution for ultra-portable laptops has been announced, with only 15 watts of power consumption during operation.
