Intel Shark Bay – the new processor family in 2012 and 2013

In the leaked presentations, Intel has been making bold claims regarding a reduction in power consumption (20 fold reductions by 2013) for over ten days of connected standby performance on a notebook. We receive a little insight as to how it plans to accomplish this, not so much through a revolutionary CPU redesign but through a new power-managed platform.

From Intel, we have a momentum of new information on the upcoming Intel “Shark Bay” available platform, which will probably appear next year. This includes the new 22nm processors in Haswell construction, which will be released as early as 2013 in the trade and bring even more power with less power consumption with it.

The new platform moves here at Shark Bay, with two new sockets for processors, once the G3 (947-pin) for mobile terminals and the new H3-socket (LGA1150) for desktop PCs. Both new processors support Hyper-Threading already known and Turbo Boost technology and include a dual-channel DDR3-1600MHz RAM-equipped controller, and PCI-Express 3.0. In addition, also follows a graphics chipset can output DirectX 11 content, and it supports up to three monitors. Other new features include the Intel AVX 2.0 Set of commands, new options for overclocking and last level cache.

Haswell itself is a new architecture, but appears to remain quad-core with a similar TDP to current Intel offerings, whilst scaling down to 15W for netbook devices. This may seem insignificant, however 15W allows Intel to look to push its Atom technology towards lower power-consumption and focus in a more specific market. Intel has already announced its intentions to work with Google to optimise Android for the Atom and x86 modifications to the Android source have been spotted very recently.

The new Haswell processors will appear with two and four cores, and have a power consumption between 35 to 95 watts. The mobile processors will be equipped similarly, but have a power of 37, 47 and 57 watts. In addition, a system-on-chip solution for ultra-portable laptops has been announced, with only 15 watts of power consumption during operation.

Dell Announces XPS 14z Notebook

In the second half of 2011 the assortment of Dell notebook is properly extended. After only a short time before the XPS 15z model came onto the market, is already one other device immediately prior to its publication. The next notebook will appear under the name XPS 14z and appeal to those customers who place a high value on a compact book. Already from the outer appearance, the Dell laptop is different from the rest of the products from the range. Just 23 millimeters, the portable computer of the U.S. group to be high. Otherwise can not deny certain similarities to its predecessor XPS 15z. In addition to the aluminum enclosure is also the resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels completely ident.

One of the best attempts may be Dell’s XPS 14z, which the company announced earlier today. The 14-inch notebook is built with an anodized aluminum chassis that houses one of the XPS 14z’s two processor options: the dual-core Intel Core i5 2.4GHz 2430M, and the dual-core Intel Core i7 2.8GHz 2460M. The CPU is backed up by 6GB of RAM (up to 8GB), a 2GB GeForce GT 525M graphics processor, and either 500GB or 750GB of storage.

The technical equipment inside the notebook offers a solid basis, but real highlights are rather scarce. The 14z used in the XPS i5 and i7 GeForce processors are already used in some other models on the market are used. The chip is supported by a RAM with a size of 4 GB. Dell will publish the upcoming notebook in three different versions, the differences lie in the rough area of the disk. Here, consumers have the choice between 256, 500 and 750 gigabytes of hard drive space. Otherwise, the device has not really offer much. Only two USB ports, Ethernet, a mini-DisplayPort, Bluetooth 3.0, Wi-Fi 802nd 11 a / g / n and HDMI are still present.

With a battery life of eight hours is the Dell XPS 14z in this area more in midfield. As the release date, the company has 15 November set. The cheapest option will be to buy it then at a price of 899 €. Even if the device in all respects “only” is considered good mediocrity, it is recommended especially for entrepreneurs who are looking for a compact final solution.

Dell has moved most of the notebook’s connectivity options around to the back to make it as thin as possible, including the Ethernet and HDMI ports. Battery life is impressive at 6 hours and 42 minutes, which is just 18 minutes less that Apple’s MacBook Air.
