Solar Energy – Solar Decathlon Tenesol in 2010.

solar

Tenesol global provider of solar-owned giant TOTAL and EDF, has contributed to the creation of one of the French proposals at the International Solar Decathlon competition (SD) 2010. 20 universities around the world compete with the objective of designing and building an ecological house-sized, which runs entirely on solar energy. Throughout the contest, the house is inhabited. This helps to highlight the latest innovations in effective, attractive and affordable for the sustainable development of the future.

For over 26 years Tenesol imagines, designs, manufactures, installs and manages the systems of production and consumption of solar energy (consumption on isolated sites, general power grid directly connected, hot water sun) for its customers worldwide.

In addition to photovoltaic panels, Tenesol also provided all cables and an integrated control system that measures the amount of electricity produced by solar home. The company also made available to students a project manager who works alongside them and provides any assistance. The team was able ENSAG consolidate their knowledge of photovoltaic technology and learned to get the best possible results.

ARMADILLO BOX: THE BOX IDEAS

The design of the Armadillo Box came from the results of a European research project dedicated to passive houses in hot countries. It is based on a compact structure and aims to reduce the need for heating and cooling of the seasons. The building includes a number of new technologies for sustainable development. Its characteristics are as follows:

* 97 photovoltaic panels in total, spread over an area of 102 m2 with a capacity of 15 kWp, are integrated into the roof structure and shading. The system is connected to the network and supports all of the electricity needs of the house.
* A mechanical ventilation system Dual-stream runs through the whole frame of the home. A single pump is used for heating and cooling of the housing. This system also produces hot water, depending on sun exposure.
* The housing is completely isolated and all the kitchen equipment belong to the energy class A.
* The house is fully automated: all equipment and accessories (including curtains) are controlled by an automation system
* The building is made of natural materials and recyclable materials such as wood, recycled steel and earth.

The students have built two houses Armadillo Box for this project. One of them will be used for the contest DS 2010 and the other will be presented in the solar village of INES, the premises of the institute, Le Bourget du Lac. Thus, it would receive wider dissemination.

Solar Decathlon

SD is a biannual event organized since 2002 by the American Department of Energy in order to inform on solar energy, educating the public about this issue and encourage the use of such energy. For this 2010 edition of Solar Decathlon leaves for the first time the territory of the United States, since the event took place this year from June 10 to 19 in Madrid, Spain (read our article “).

The prototypes of houses must operate solely on solar energy, be connected to the network and use technology to lower energy consumption. Ten trials to assess the houses (hence the name “decathlon”). SD represents a key challenge for Tenesol. The company recently expanded its business from individuals. Now she sells solar solutions directly on the French market and is expanding distribution of its consumer products in Europe.
