Sharp will manufacture solar cell power generation joint venture with European companies

Sharp Corp. Monday said it has signed an agreement to produce the thin-film solar cells, and with Europe’s second largest Sony VGP-BPS8 electricity supplier Enel Group, which produces electricity.

For the production of solar cells, Sharp will work with the Italian company Enel and the Swiss manufacturer of semiconductor giant STMicroelectronics to establish joint VGP-BPS9 VGP-BPS9/B ventures. They will spend some ¥ 42,600,000,000 STMicroelectronics plant in Sicily, next to the construction of factories. The plant is expected to start production in 2011, according to demand, its annual production capacity to 480,000 kilowatts, enough to meet the needs of 130,000 households in the average family.

Meanwhile, Sharp and Enel will set up a joint venture to produce electricity, with each holding half the shares, and plans in the Mediterranean countries such as Italy, France and Spain, Sony VGP-BPS9A Sony VGP-BPS9A/B business development. As of the end of 2016, they want to solar power plants capable of producing annually more than 500,000 kilowatts of electricity.
